90 Points - Connoisseur's Guide to CA Wine

"Strongly smelling of crème brûlée and freshly baked brioche, yet ever so slightly less incisive in fruit as its two companions above and still a bit on the tight side for the substantial, fully ripened wine that it is, Chasseur’s Lorenzo leads with plenty of rich oak and keeps its appley aspects under wraps. Its undisguised acidity is both a bane and a boon in that it makes the wine a touch too stiff for drinking now yet provides plenty of ageworthy vigor, and, while this one will succeed in the shorter term with richly sauced shellfish dishes, we would opt for more time on the cork and wait for its fourth or fifth birthday to arrive."

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This sophisticated Chardonnay unwinds with airing, and a progression of preserved lemon, apple, peach and pear skin fruit scents along with enriching savory notes of toasted nuts, baking spices and vanilla wafers march out in military open rank fashion: the whole formation is reined-in by a core of wet stone minerality. The mouthwatering finish is clean and refreshing, like the brine of a fresh oyster.

Vintage Notes
Could the 2014 harvest be on par with the 2007? The undisputed facts are that the vintage came from a wonderful growing season with nearly perfect timing for all phases; bud break, set, version and harvest were what one would come to expect of a great or nearly great vintage. The yield was such that no one will want for more but not so large that the wines are without weight and color. The true sign of a terrific vintage is that little or nothing needs to be added at the must/juice stage and this vintage being no exception. All lots came in with proper sugars, great flavors and excellent acids so that little or no additions were needed at the fermenter. Could be one for the ages, time will tell.
