95 Points - Pinot File, The Prince of Pinot

"Moderate golden yellow color in the glass. Somewhat reserved but highly pleasing aromas of lemon, honeysuckle and crushed sea shells. A somewhat lean and steely style, that is nevertheless extremely refreshing, with a core of lemon-lime, green apple and vanilla flavors. Beautifully composed with a
bright and clean demeanor. More Chablis styled than California in character and a wine that one would never tire of drinking."

Wine Profile
Winemaker Notes
Impressions of firm fresh pear, apples and lemon curd waft from the glass and are then followed by toasted cashews and smoky mineral notes which float in the headspace above the wine. Toasted nut and mineral accents of wet stone support lemon zest, peach and orange marmalade. This Chardonnay has structure and zest with an extra layer of suppleness.

Vintage Notes
Could the 2014 harvest be on par with the 2007? The undisputed facts are that the vintage came from a wonderful growing season with nearly perfect timing for all phases; bud break, set, version and harvest were what one would come to expect of a great or nearly great vintage. The yield was such that no one will want for more but not so large that the wines are without weight and color. The true sign of a terrific vintage is that little or nothing needs to be added at the must/juice stage and this vintage being no exception. All lots came in with proper sugars, great flavors and excellent acids so that little or no additions were needed at the fermenter. Could be one for the ages, time will tell.
