94 Points - Pinot File, The Prince of Pinot

"Moderate garnet color in the glass. Complex and alluring nose offering scents of cherry, raspberry, spice, seasoned oak, graham and even a hint of peach. One could be happy just smelling this wine. Mid weight flavors of black cherry, black raspberry and spice exude class. The wine has both precision and clarity and a pleasing grip of juicy acidity on the glorious finish. Sublime."

Wine Profile
Winemaker Notes
This is a splendid and distinctive wine with a style and grace in the absolute yet with concentration and weight, commensurate with the finest of the Nuits. Aromas are brightly fresh and show a chiseled focus and a wonderful sense of polish. Full and satiating in the mouth, notes of smoke and sweet vanilla join with sumac and hints of Asian spice, juniper and minerality.

Vintage Notes
Could the 2014 harvest be on par with the 2007? The undisputed facts are that the vintage came from a wonderful growing season with nearly perfect timing for all phases; bud break, set, version and harvest were what one would come to expect of a great or nearly great vintage. The yield was such that no one will want for more but not so large that the wines are without weight and color. The true sign of a terrific vintage is that little or nothing needs to be added at the must/juice stage and this vintage being no exception. All lots came in with proper sugars, great flavors and excellent acids so that little or no additions were needed at the fermenter. Could be one for the ages, time will tell.
