2012 Chasseur Blank Pinot Noir
There is very little to say about this dream vintage that has not been said. This textbook vintage couldn’t have come out any better if drawn up on a blackboard ahead of time.
Streaming from the glass of this gutsy dark Pinot are aromas of black cherry and crushed dark rose petal. This is an expansive, savory, meaty chasseur stew of red licorice, pomegranate syrup, allspice, cumin and porcini mushrooms. It boasts a wonderful, harmonious mélange of dried orange, sweet smoke, leather/gain, black pepper and coriander which transitions with immaculate grace from the entry to the mid-palate and then on to the finish. A stunning wine of hedonist delight, it should improve with an additional 2 to 3 years.
There is very little to say about this dream vintage that has not been said. This textbook vintage couldn’t have come out any better if drawn up on a blackboard ahead of time. A warm spring for set and a warm summer sans the requisite excessive heat, even ripening all the way to late September/mid-October made for a combination of high yields (even after multiple passes of dropping fruit) and yes yielding high quality, powerful wines. This vintage eschews the notion of better wines coming from lower yields.
